The seed to explore photography
was planted by my father. He was both student and teacher. He shared the theory he learned in the classroom, and then demonstrated those techniques by photographing his family, family trips, and close up objects.
He has a tremendous eye for composition and his thoughtful explanations served as the bedrock for my interest.

In 2014, my passion for the art was re-kindled by a moving journey to Japan.

Nature offers the best subjects. In 2022 I was fortunate to capture a few good examples.

On a Saturday afternoon in early 2021, I was able to capture the image of this tree situated in the heart of the Japanese garden located at The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens.
The gnarly trunk topped with a sprawling, twisted canopy presented an interesting image to my eye and my mind.

Ten miles south of Portland, OR is the City of Lake Oswego. The two photos were taken as the sun was rising at roughly the same time of day.
Sadly the image on the right is not mist but smoke from the fires of 2020.

Hockey was another passion transferred from my father. As a Greek immigrant, he embraced the sport as it was similar to soccer. He took my brother and me to Olympia Stadium to watch the Detroit Red Wings and Gordie Howe play.

We played lots in our basement on the linoleum floor and whenever we could on ice.

In my early days in Los Angeles, it was the peak of the Gretzky era and amateur hockey was on fire. A group of soccer playing co-workers and a few of us midwest transplants played for about a decade all around the city.

These skates have zigged the country in tournaments, league play and pick-up games. I've played with Stanley Cup champs, with actors, on a team with LA County Sheriff deputies and with my family.
I hung them up in 2020.

Fort Rock, located in Central Oregon, is a volcanic vent formed when the magna rose to the surface and met this ice-age lake.

My running team spotted this formation halfway in our 216.6 mile relay run from Cascade Lake to Bend.

Live music is my jam. Watching humans actually play their instruments is thrilling. If those humans are some of history's best, it moves the experience up a few notches.
Over the last decade+, I have enjoyed this cover band, Royal Machines, play multi-night residencies on Sunset Blvd.

At this 2018 show the band's leader, Billy Morrison (far right) was feeling a bit crabby and announced this will be the last set of shows for the public. Scheduling was rough that year with changed dates and venues. I suspect when things return to "normal" we will see a return to the stage. The fellas are currenlty feeling nostalgic on social media.

Regardless, if this was the "last one", it was a good run. The list of musical icons I've enjoyed is too long to name and would seem unreal.
Check them out online. They are called Royal Machines, or Camp Freddy in the early years.

These two buildings represent the city's legacy and its future.

A solemn visit to the mausoleum of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and his grandson Iemitsu in Nikko, Japan moved me to the core.
